You can set sample rate and block size either here or using your sound card's own control software. If unsure, start with 44100 and 512.
A quick search on the Cockos forums yields a few with some quirky behaviors but none of that sort for Eventide except for the free Ultrachannel. Try there. A post will get a useful answer very quickly. Also, go to the Pre Release sub fourm and get the latest pre release version.

I have the latest version of Reaper on a mac and windows and I just love it on windows. Perfect and smooth. But I had a similar problem with it on my mac. It kept crashing upon insertion of one specific VST and later on after a computer restart it seems to be working fine. I would suggest producing on windows just because it is smoother and there are a ton more virtual instruments available for windows versus mac. I really only use my mac for album artwork, converting files to so they actually have ID3 information unlike files and internet browsing because it's so safe you don't even need antivirus service.
